Off to Canada next month and I've got no clue about the money situation. Cards or cash? Exchange here or there?

I used my Revolut card everywhere and it worked fine. If you need cash, avoid airport exchanges (terrible rates) and just use bank ATMs in the city – RBC or TD are solid. Always decline the conversion option they offer at the machine, your own bank gives better rates. I found a decent Irish site that breaks it all down – https://znaki.fm/ie-en/currencies/canadian-dollar/ – explains the history, current exchange rates, and why oil prices affect the value. Also, tipping's expected there – 15-20% at restaurants – and sales tax varies by province, so factor that in. You'll be grand once you know the basics.
